Movistar Yamaha MotoGP rider Maverick Vinales, who
topped the pre-season test times at Qatar this past weekend,
feels they can go even quicker with a few tweaks to his Yamaha
The 22-year-old, who will be back in Qatar for the season
opener in two weeks time, spent the final days test fine tuning
his bike and set up the fastest time of 1:54.330 just 0.071s
ahead of second placed Andrea Dovizioso on his Ducati.
In an interview, Vinales said he was very happy with how things
were going and felt that he could still gain a couple of tenths
by improving the electronics.
“I’m really happy, we made another step with the bike and I
feel comfortable, even on the race pace we are quite happy,”
said the Spaniard.
“I feel that we can still better the electronics and gain a
couple of tenths, so we have a margin to improve.”
He added that he was capable of pushing the bike harder as they
were not riding the YZR-M1 to its limit quite yet.
“For sure we’re not on the bike’s limit, so we can still push a
little bit more. If we do the same in the first GP as we did in
the test, we can fight for the victory,” he said.
“We have a really good package and I feel good on the bike. I
have a great fitness now, so I feel comfortable.”
